Designed to work with the Ooma Telo smart home phone service, the company added two new products to complement its platform; Telo Air and HD3 handset.
Telo Air is a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth product that can be paired with mobile phones and used to answer incoming calls from any phone around the house. Setup is app based (Android or IOS) and can be used to get a new phone number, for account set up, and configure Telo Air’s Wi-Fi settings.
Ooma’s new ergonomically designed HD3 handset has several features designed to work with the smart home phone concept. For example, while charging, the handset can be used as a speakerphone, and customers are also able to synchronize phonebook data from Apple, Google, Yahoo, etc. The HD3 uses social media profile pictures for caller identification, and the handset uses one-touch voicemail, and an intercom button that is usable during handset transfers.
Ooma Telo Air will be...
Arris calls their new NVG578 and NVG558 gateways “future-ready” as both are designed to tackle upcoming challenges for service providers.
The PON gateway platform used by the NVG578 is built to handle passive optical network speeds used by ultra-high speed broadband services, and will scale to adapt to GPON, XGS-PON and NG-PON2 speeds (up to 10 Gbps symmetrical). For wireless, NVG578 offers 802.11ac and 802.11ax, supporting both dual- and tri-band configurations.
Other physical interfaces found on the NVG578 are one phone line, one 10 GbE LAN/WAN port, four GbE ports, two USB 3.0 ports, and a GPON fiber 2.5 BOSA and SFP+ cage.
NVG558 is a fixed wireless broadband triple-play gateway available in variants supporting 4G LTE or 3.5GHz CBRS services (and potentially 5G, per Arris). Supported Wi-Fi options for the NVG558 include 4x4 802.11ac or 4x4 802.11ax in dual- or tri-band configurations....
The Alliance's Wi-Fi Agile Multiband Certification program is based on IEEE 802.11 k, v, u and r standards plus "Wi-Fi Alliance defined technologies".
It is intended to establish a standard use of these technologies vs. the piecemeal approach currently taken by most makers of Wi-Fi product and ensure interoperability across device vendors.
The primary focus of the new Certification is to ensure intelligent steering and fast network transitions for devices to ensure fast, smooth roaming and band steering. Eliminating the cause of "sticky" clients will help to ensure better bandwidth use.
An examination of the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Agile Multiband™ Technology Overview indicates that the new Certification primarily uses features from 802.11k, v and r. The Wi-Fi Alliance features include expanded information reported between APs and client...

Marvell signaled its entry into the arena for next-generation Wi-Fi with the announcement of its first 802.11ax products.
Marvell's 11ax portfolio includes two, four and eight stream devices. The 88W9068 is a 5 GHz only 8x8 for high-end access points and wireless routers. The 88W9064 is a dual-band 4x4 AP/router device for "mainstream" products. The dual-band 2x2 88W9064S moves down-market even further, targeting service provider and set-top boxes. No solution for mobile devices was announced.
All devices will also support 1024 QAM, off-channel spectrum scanning, dedicated in-service monitoring and precision location. Integrated Bluetooth will also be available for the dual band 88W9064 and 88W9064S SoCs.
Marvell is attempting to distance itself from its competitors by emphasizing support for both downlink and uplink MU-MIMO and OFDMA. All 11ax chipsets announced to date have claimed "support" for uplink MU-MIMO. But...

Changes to D-Link’s DGS-1210 series include two new PoE smart managed Gigabit switches, the 8-port + 2 combo DGS-1210-10MP, and the 24-port + 4 combo DGS-1210-28MP. Aside from their sets of Layer 2 networking and switching features, both switches will support PoE across all ports and have budgets of 130W and 370W, respectively.
D-Link also announced new features for the DGS-1210 series: surveillance mode and static routing. Surveillance mode switches out the conventional management UI with a camera/NVR-centric interface featuring a network topology map that provides port information, including power consumption, device type, IP and MAC addresses and other link data. Static routing lets admins control communication between VLANs by letting them manually add routes into the switch’s routing table, increasing performance.
Two other features for the DGS-1210 series include dual image memory that offers the choosing of configuration ID and...
Zyxel’s three new MoCA 2.0 devices use coaxial cabling to help build home networks.
The EMG6765-Q10 AC2200 Ethernet gateway, the WAP7205 AC1300 MU-MIMO extender, and the HLA4205 Ethernet adapter all support bonded data rates up to 1400 Mbps.
The EMG6765-Q10 has an Ethernet WAN port and can use its built-in MoCA adapter to send data to other MoCA devices like Zyxel’s new extender and Ethernet adapter.
Maximum wireless data rates for the EMG6765-Q10 run at up 450 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and 1733 Mbps at 5 GHz. Other EMG6765-Q10 features include four GbE LAN ports and two USB 3.0 ports for device sharing. Linksys today announced its RE9000 Max-Stream Tri-Band AC3000 Wi-Fi Range Extender. It takes direct aim at NETGEAR’s EX8000 Nighthawk X6S extender announced this past August, priced at $169.99, $60 lower than the EX8000's $229.99.
Both products contain three radios, one 2x2 2.4 GHz, one 2x2 5 GHz low band and one 4x4 5 GHz high band. The extra radio enables the option of a dedicated backhaul connection when used with "tri-band" routers. This maximizes bandwidth available to devices by not sharing the same radio for backhaul and client connection.
RE9000 features include:
- Integrated four-port gigabit Ethernet switch for wireless-to-Ethernet bridging
- Three radios supporting maximum link rates of 400 Mbps (2x2 2.4 GHz), 867 Mbps (2x2 5 GHz low band) and 1733 Mbps (4x4 5 GHz high band)
- MU-MIMO and beamforming support on both 5 GHz...
